Speaking at the
inaugural ceremony, Sushil Mantri, Chairman and MD of Mantri Developers Pvt.
Ltd., expressed optimism towards the symbolic nature of the centre and said, “India stands at the edge of becoming a
global leader, economically as well as culturally. The Mahatma Gandhi Centre of
Leadership is a much needed foundation to build future leaders who will lead
India in its growth trajectory. I applaud the efforts by the school to
meaningfully educate children beyond the conventional learning system and make
a positive difference to the society and the country.”
Sarojini Rao, the
Principal of Indus International School, Bangalore who spoke on the idea behind
the Centre, said, “Today is a milestone
in Indus’ leadership journey. The Mahatma Gandhi Centre for Leadership puts in
place yet one more initiative of Indus’s leadership to create leaders of tomorrow.
The launch of the Mobile Health Care Centre and the Low-Cost Sanitary Napkin
Machine are but two of our endeavours to guide children to become responsible
leaders for the society.”
“The Leadership School, the Equal Opportunity School for the
underprivileged, and the Leadership Curriculum for all children, are distinct
features of the Indus leadership edifice. The Centre is a major step in
leadership development and aims to motivate and inspire students and teachers
to imbibe values that are a rich legacy endowed by the Mahatma. The resources
in place will certainly have a moral impact that transcends national borders,” she added.
The Mobile Health
Care Centre is built to address pertinent medical issues in neighbouring
villages. The Centre essentially consists of a mobile ambulance along with a
makeshift clinic with a competent doctor, space to examine the patient, space for
consultation, a medical supplies kit, a waiting bay and a toilet. With tele-medicine
facilities provided through a tie-up with Narayana Hrudayalaya, Indus will concertedly
reach out to the underprivileged in the neighbourhood.
It has been well
documented that women, particularly in rural India, suffer from health issues
and the reasons can be attributed to various factors that include the high cost
of sanitary napkins. In a bid to address issues pertaining to women’s health
and hygiene, a Low Cost Sanitary Napkin Machine was also launched as part of
the students’ initiative. Students are being trained to manufacture the low-cost
affordable sanitary napkins in the Main School and Community School.

and the Low Cost Sanitary Napkin Machine form part of our way of giving back to
the community and I am happy to see Indus International School lead the way in
building responsible leaders.”

International School seeks to fill gaps between the real-world and academic
knowledge where these programmes and activities are designed to promote academic
excellence, leadership skills as well as social responsibility. Students
develop an understanding of both global and local issues, and are encouraged to
use critical thinking skills and creativity to find innovative solutions to
problems.
